Practical Information
We are confident that the IMC 2023 in Belgium can take place as planned, though this of course depends on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and related policies. We wish to point potential participants' attention to the following:
- In case the IMC 2023 is canceled due to COVID-19, all participants will get a total refund of their registration fees.
- If travel between a participant's country and Belgium is not allowed at the time of the IMC 2023 due to Covid-19-related restrictions, the participant will get a total refund of his/her registration fee.
Please, refer to the official regulations in Belgium. This page is regulary updated.
It is the participant's responsibility to comply with all health regulations of the Belgian authorities, particularly those pertaining to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Weather
Belgium has a temperate maritime climate characterized by moderate temperatures. In the last few years, summer has become hotter and dryer but it can also be relatively cold and rainy. Check the weather forecast before travelling and be prepared for everything. Bringing something to protect you against the rain is certainly a valuable advice 😉 Note also that during the visit of the radio-astronomical site in Humain, we will walk in the grass. So be prepared to use walking shoes. You will also need them in the Caves of Han!
Visas
Please check the Belgian Immigration Office website to check if you need a visa.
In case you need an invitation letter for a visa, please provide your legal private domicile or professional address, passport number and the address of Belgian consulate where your visa application will be submitted. Notice that the LOC reserves the right to refuse issuing an invitation letter if there is doubt w.r.t. to the purpose of your visit.
Currency
The local currency of Belgium is Euro. You can exchange foreign currencies to Euro in the main cities or withdraw some cash at the main train stations or at the airports. Of course, you can also use your credit card.
There is no way to get cash at ESC. Credit cards, debit cards and cash are accepted at ESC.
Power Sockets
The power sockets are type F with a voltage of 230 V and a frequency of 50 Hz (standard Euro connector). Please take along a travel adapter to be sure your plug fits.
The LOC can usually also provide assistance with matters not covered on these pages. They can be contacted via the Contact page.
